Sapphira

"Beautiful or Sapphire"

Sapphira
Sapphira

Day 10

Sapphira and her husband Ananias were part of the early Church. At that time, people would sell their possessions and share the wealth to help support others. Sapphira and Ananias sold a piece of land, but they secretly kept some of the proceeds and pretended to give the full amount. When Peter confronted Ananias about the lie, he was struck dead on the spot. A few hours later, Sapphira came in, unaware of what had happened, and she confirmed the lie. Peter asked her how could she conspire to test the Lord and let her know she would get the same fate as her husband, and she also fell dead instantly.

Their story is a powerful reminder that you can’t deceive God.

Biblical Reference(s): Acts 5: 1-11

We learn from this woman's life:

  • Honesty Before God - The story highlights the importance of truthfulness. Sapphira's sin was not withholding money, it was lying about it.

  • God Sees our Heart - We can be deceiving to other people, but remember God knows our heart and our true intentions.

  • Accountability & Consequences - Sapphira had a choice, she could have spoken the truth instead of supporting her husband’s deception, which led to severe consequences. We have to be accountable for our own spiritual responsibility and relationship with God even in marriage.
