Mary, Martha's Sister

"Beloved"

Mary, Martha's Sister
Mary, Martha's Sister

Day 9

Mary is Martha's sister and they reside in Bethany. Jesus is a good friend to their brother, Lazarus. She is the calmer of the two sisters, taking time to slow down and be mindful. While her sister is not always appreciative of her being so laid back, they both have a love and respect for Jesus that grants them ultimate favor with the Son of God. Jesus has a very special relationship with both of the sisters, but it is Mary who performs a most precious act.

She is best known for anointing Jesus' feet with her very expensive ointment.

Biblical Reference(s): The book of John, Chapter 11

We learn from Mary how to show:

  • calmness - everything does not require worry or disdain. God is present to help with our most stressful situations

  • loyalty - know who is worth your time and energy. Everyone does not deserve the best parts of you

  • reverence - have a deep respect for God and be in awe of Him. Make time for God and believe in His power to do amazing things
