Mary Magdalene

Day 1

The name "Mary Magdalene" has a specific meaning tied to her origins. "Mary" is a common name in Hebrew, derived from "Miriam," which means "bitter" or "beloved." "Magdalene" indicates that she was from Magdala, a town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. So, her name essentially means "Mary of Magdala."

Mary Magdalene was a devoted follower of Jesus. She was one of the women who was healed by Jesus and she appeared to be wealthy because she supported Jesus and his disciples financially. She was present at the crucifixion of Jesus as she stood at the cross with other women. She was also known as the first person to see Jesus after His resurrection. She went back to the tomb and found it empty. Then she later encountered the risen Jesus, who instructed her to go and tell the disciples. Over the years, Mary Magdalene was mistakenly portrayed as a repentant prostitute, but this characterization is not supported in the bible. Instead, she is celebrated for her unwavering faith and dedication. Mary Magdalene's story highlights her important role in the early Christian community and her deep devotion to Jesus.
