Day 2

Leah's story is found in Genesis. She was the daughter of Laban and was considered less attractive than her younger sister Rachel. Jacob saw Rachel and fell in love instantly. He worked seven years to marry her. Yet was tricked by their father Laban into marrying Leah. Jacob then had to work another seven years to finally marry Rachel. Now married to both. Leah unloved yet was still faithful, bore Jacob six sons and one daughter. Ruben, Simeon and Levi were given sad names, because she longed for love from her husband. However her forth son, Judah means praise. She looked to God who loved her. Judah’s lineage lead to the birth of Jesus Christ.

Biblical References: Genesis 29

From this woman's life we learn:

  • A child’s love of self should be initially instilled at home

  • Showing blatant favoritism among your children can cause low self esteem and/or psychological damage

  • Find confidence in God; it will build your confidence in self

  • God’s love is forever - man’s love can be fleeting

  • A man’s vision of lovely/pretty is in the eye of the beholder - but God who created you, finds you altogether lovely and that’s good enough!
